Sorin, from Romania, develops IT solutions for Danske Bank's investment customers

28-year-old Sorin Barbu loves to work in Denmark because innovation thrives in the digital field. As a UX Designer at Danske Bank, Sorin's ideas are for new, usable online services.

Sorin works in a large office in Danske Bank’s Group IT. His job is to create easy-to-use digital offers and solutions within the investment area for online and mobile banking.

‘It is very important to me that I can be creative in my job. I draw and don’t actually spend that much time in front of my computer screen because my ideas and sketches always start with a piece of paper and a pencil,’ says Sorin Barbu, who comes from Romania's capital Bucharest, but lives and works in Aarhus.

Employed while still a student

Sorin got the job at Danske Bank while he was still studying Digital Concept Development at Business Academy Aarhus.

‘I was not really looking for someone with his skills, but Sorin is so passionate and adds so much value that I had to hire him,’ says Development Director in Danske Bank Lene Baia and adds:

‘We have a high professional level, so we don't just let anyone in.’

An advantage working in an international environment

Sorin calls it a privilege and sees it as a clear advantage to work in a company with so many different nationalities and professional backgrounds.

‘Diversity and differences are the key to being innovative, I think. My Romanian background helps me give my colleagues new perspectives on things.’

Recruiting foreigners

Danske Bank has around 1,500 IT employees in Denmark. More and more of them, like Sorin, come from a different country.
